"Rebel" is an acrylic painting that reflects on the emotional weight of conflict through a single, symbolic object: a pair of worn army boots. Created for a group exhibition based upon the theme of "Conflict", the piece explores ideas of displacement, loss and resilience, referencing refugees of war and the identities carried through what little they can keep.

Painted on raw linen to mimic the earthy camouflage tones of military war, the scuffed surfaces, broken soles and frayed laces suggest stories untold - from exhaustion and survival to dignity amid destruction. With nods to both historical and modern warfare, "Rebel" is a portrait of both absence and a quiet act of resistance.
